Dr. Alycia Washington is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and has worked as a small animal emergency veterinarian for nearly a decade. She currently works as a relief veterinarian and provides services to multiple emergency hospitals and 24-hour veterinary facilities. Dr. Washington is also a freelance veterinary writer and children’s book author.  

Dr. Washington started her veterinary career as an assistant at an emergency hospital prior to attending to veterinary school. Over the years, she has learned the importance of conveying information that is accurate and clear to help pet owners make informed decisions regarding their pet’s health. This skill guides her writing and medical review, allowing her to express medical concepts in concise and plain language.

Education

Dr. Washington earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in photography from Texas State University. She also earned a master's in Wildlife Ecology from Texas State University, where she completed her thesis in turtle nest predation. Dr. Washington received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine.
