Our favorite dog poop bags are now even more climate friendly—and still leak proof.

Canada-based Earth Rated announced that its popular dog waste bags are now made from 65% post-consumer recycled plastic. In the announcement Earth Rated estimated that the recycled content in the new generation dog bags will avert 5 million pounds of plastic from landfills each year. The new formula also reduces Earth Rated bags’ carbon footprint by 22 percent, the company says.

Dog owners know: It's never, ever a bad time to stock up on poop bags. The last thing you want is to be on a walk without one. With 270 bags for $14, Earth Rated will have your dog's walks covered for at least four and a half months. 

We tested 25 popular dog poop bags and named Earth Rated our favorite. Earth Rated dog poop bags are leak-proof, a useful 13 by 9 inches, and also available in a lavender scented version.

An underrated feature: The rolls include a sticker to let you know when you're down to your final three bags, so you know when it's time to restock. 

Our only complaint is that opening the bags can sometimes be tricky, especially in gloves, so Earth Rated recommends pinching the tops to separate the sides.

This dispenser can attach to any style of leash, with a silicone strap that sits flat to prevent it from swinging around as you walk. The hook on the back of the dispenser gives you a place to put the filled bag so you don't have to carry it in your hands (gross). To refill, you twist the housing until it opens, drop in a bag refill, then thread the bag through the slit.
