The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge offers cushy sleeping with top-of-the-line memory foam, but it’s a bit pricey and restrictive for smaller dogs.
PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed
We purchased the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge so our reviewer could put it to the test with her dogs. Keep reading for our full product review.
When I volunteered to watch my brother’s senior dog, I knew I needed an extra-cushy bed to help her sleep well. Or, at least I thought I did. Dogs are funny when it comes to sleeping arrangements; what works for one dog may not work for another. (And some dogs choose the hardwood floor over a memory foam, orthopedic bed—I’ll never understand!)
In my attempt to be the “cool aunt” for the 25-pound Jack Russell and chihuahua mix, Roxie, I gave the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge a try. The layers of memory foam sounded too hard for Roxie, a 12-year-old dog, to resist. And I knew once she was finished with the bed, I could let my 6-year-old bichon-poodle, Harry, in on the cozy fun.
But Harry, like Roxie, is a bit picky when it comes to beds. These two tend to prefer the floor or their usual (read: tired and old) beds when it comes to sleeping. Could the cushy promises of this memory foam dog bed deliver their soundest sleep yet? I gave the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge a whirl to find out.
Size: Restrictive sizes for small to medium dogs
This bed was definitely not designed with medium-sized dogs in mind. PetFusion’s size options jump from a small (at 25 x 20 inches) to a large (at 36 x 28 inches). We went with a small, which just barely fit the 20-pound Harry and 25-pound Roxie. If Harry was any bigger, we’d have to jump up basically two full sizes. That said, it is trickier for big-dog owners to find beds that fit, which is why the sizes go up to XXL Jumbo (50 x 40 inches)—a huge plus for owners of larger dogs like Great Danes or Mastiffs.
Materials: Filled with cozy memory foam
When I buy a bed for my dog, Harry, I go into it trying to think about what I myself would want. And in the case of the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge, I wanted all of this cozy bed’s offerings. I’m talking layers of cushy memory foam and a soft polyester and breathable cotton exterior—not to mention padding around the sides that makes for a perfect headrest. The bed also comes in three colors that blend into most home styles: slate gray, chocolate brown, and sandstone.
This bed was definitely not designed with medium-sized dogs in mind. The size options jump from a small to a large.
But here’s the thing: I seem to want different things than Harry and my brother’s dog, Roxie. I put the bed out while pet-sitting Roxie, and neither she nor Harry gave it the time of day. That doesn’t mean this dog bed (which is also marketed for cats!) is not soft, and it doesn’t mean it’s not comfortable. I think it just means I have two particularly picky dogs on my hands.
Comfortability: Soft and cozy to the touch
With two dogs in tow, I was able to get multiple opinions on the comfort level of the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge. Of course, as I said, I had two of the least cooperative test subjects around. Harry looked snug in his periodic (and forced-by-me) visits, but senior pup Roxie just couldn’t be bothered. It just didn’t attract these two pups.
The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge has comfortable padded walls on three sides that make for the perfect, secure headrest.
I’ve watched Harry interact with dog beds quite a bit, and he tends to gravitate toward the beds with padded walls (my hypothesis is he loves the sense of security). The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge has comfortable padded walls on three sides that make for the perfect, secure headrest. When I did tempt Harry into the bed with his favorite dog treats, he snuggled down and conformed perfectly to the cushioned walls—but of course, this didn’t last. He was up, out, and on the floor in no time.
Washing: Removable and washable cover
The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge is easy to wash, with a removable cover that’s safe in the washing machine. Thankfully, we didn’t have many issues, but when I put Harry’s favorite KONG toys in the bed with treats, he did end up getting a stain or two on the materials. I could’ve machine washed it, but found that simple soap and water helped me get the stain out quickly. (That said, it’s nice to know that machine-washing—with tumble-drying—is an option.)
Durability: Polyester that’s built to last
The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge is lined with a durable polyester and cotton twill that manufacturers promise will last. It also has a water-resistant, anti-tear outside covering. And, if something does end up happening, a two-year warranty will help ensure your investment is not lost.
Price: Middle of the road
The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge is affordable for smaller pups, starting at about $75 for a small bed. This is normal for beds of this quality and size. The price rises, of course, as the size of the dog grows—up to about $250 for the XXL Jumbo.
PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge vs. Big Barker Headrest Edition Dog Bed
The PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge has quite a few similarities to the Big Barker Headrest bed, which I also tested. Both were built with senior pups in mind, and both come in XXL sizes for larger breeds. That said, these beds do have some differences. For one, the Big Barker bed has no padded walls surrounding it, which is great for pups who like to sprawl out—but a downside for pups who love that extra sense of security. Comparing the two, I also found the Big Barker to be a bit cushier; the PetFusion bed doesn’t have as much give.
Additionally, the Big Barker bed comes in much more diverse sizes for small pups; we ended up with the medium, which had more than enough room for Roxie and, if she allowed it, another pup. Finally, the prices vary. While PetFusion’s small bed is about $75, the Big Barker bed runs from around $200—and is therefore definitely not the most budget-friendly option. The XXL Big Barker bed also retails for about $500, while the PetFusion bed goes for around $250.

While the PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge is not cheap, it does deliver comfortable and high-quality memory foam support for pups at a price far more affordable than its competitors. If your pup loves cushy dog beds—and prefers beds to sleeping on the floor—this one is a great option.
